Carrier Unlock
When you purchase or finance a mobile device from a carrier ( ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc) it generally comes carrier locked. This will lock the device to the specific network so you can’t use it with any other service provider until the phone is fully paid off or until it meets carrier requirements to unlock the device.
Unlocking your device means that you can switch carriers and use your device with any network. Unlocking your device will also add value when selling your phone.
Please don’t worry- It’s completely legal in the USA to request to unlock your device.
All cell phone providers offer unlocking services after you have fully paid off your device, or terms and conditions have expired. The unlocking does not happen automatically and a request needs to be submitted to your wireless service provider. (AT&T, Cricket, Boost Mobile, Sprint, Metro PCS, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc.)
